Our Story

The Mashulaville Dormitory is one of only two structures remaining from the Noxubee County Agricultural High School, which began in 1911. Soon after WWII the school was closed. In 1967, Andrew and Sarah Miller moved from Indiana to Mashulaville and used the dormitory as a children’s home. Over the next decade, they cared for many Native American (Choctaw) and African American children. In 1978 the Mennonite Board of Missions opened the Mashulaville Voluntary Service Unit. The many people that served at the unit provided community programs and services for the surrounding area. The VS unit closed in 1996, having touched the lives and souls of many. Larry Miller, son of Andrew and Sarah, along with his wife Maxine, continued serving the community in a variety of ways, hosting many church groups and families. In 2009 the Mennonite Service Center was formed. Coordinating VBS programs, feeding children and the elderly, and repairing homes for the disabled and disadvantaged are just some of the services provided. There is always something to do at the dormitory!
